Constitution

  • Purpose

    Washington University Crew Team was founded in 1985 as a group to provide Washington University students the opportunity to row and/or learn to row, at a competitive collegiate level. Our goals shall be to increase the presence of the sport on campus, increase the skill level of rowers, represent Washington University at the highest level in competition, and to create a fun and social environment.

  • Membership

    The Washington University Crew Team shall be composed of two squads, a Men's team and a Women's team. Each team will be compromised of its intended sex, except in the case of coxswains, which may be coed for either squad. The criteria which must be met in order to become a member of either squad on the Washington University Crew Team are as follows:

    • Each member must be an undergraduate student in good standing with the university.
    • No experience is necessary, and anyone who pays dues for the semester will qualify as a member. Anyone who has participated in at least one spring semester may be considered a varsity team member.
    • Dues will be determined by the head coach and team officers.
  • Officers

    The Washington University Crew Team officers shall include:

    • Crew Team President
      • The team president shall be appointed by the head coach at either the end of the spring semester or beginning of the fall semester and be approved by a simple majority of all official members.
      • The duties of the president shall include, but not be limited to:
        • Representing all team members to the administration.
        • Dealing with the head coach and assisting in administrative duties.
        • Organizing or assisting all fund raising efforts and awards banquet.
        • Overseeing the duties of the Treasurer, Secretary and SCF representative.
    • Men's Squad Captain & Women's Squad Captain
      • The men's squad and women's squad captain shall be elected at the end of the spring semester by a simple majority of all squad members (including coxswains).
      • The duties of the captain shall include, but not be limited to:
        • To act as the leader and primary motivator of his/her respective squad.
        • To act as the main liaison between the rowers and the coaches.
        • To ensure that team members are acting in an appropriate manner on all team trips.
    • Crew Team Treasurer
      • The treasurer shall be appointed by the president at the beginning of the fall semester to act for entire the academic year.
      • The duties of the treasurer shall include, but not be limited to:
        • Collecting dues and other payments from the team.
        • Working with the head coach on financial matters.
        • Helping the officers and others run fundraisers.
    • Crew Team Secretary
      • The secretary shall be appointed by the president at the beginning of the fall semester to act for entire the academic year.
      • The duties of the secretary shall include, but not be limited to:
        • Maintaining the crew team webpage.
        • Working with the coaches to maintain club records.
        • Helping the officers and others run fundraisers.
        • Advertising
    • Sports Club Federation (SCF) Representative
      • The SCF representative shall be appointed by the president at the beginning of the fall semester to act for entire the academic year.
      • The duties of the SCF representative shall include, but not be limited to:
        • Attending and representing the crew team at all regular SCF meetings.
        • Turning in all appropriate forms to the SCF and ensuring that all documentation is up to date.
  • The Constitution
    • Any member may request a vote to alter the constitution. An alteration requires a two-thirds majority vote.
    • A current copy of the constitution must be on file with the Sports Club Federation at all times.
    • Any changes to the constitution must be submitted to the Sports Club Federation by submitting an original and revised version of the constitution and a note explaining the changes made.
  • Additional Segments

    The Washington University Crew Team will not explicitly or implicitly advocate acts of cruelty towards other individuals or groups, nor advocate the violation of any individual civil rights.
