Safe Zones Mission Statement

Safe Zones is an organization dedicated to the education of the Washington University campus community in gay, genderqueer, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, transsexual, questioning, queer, intersex, asexual, and ally (GLBTQIA) issues.  We dedicate ourselves to forming a network of allies who will be knowledgeable in these issues and show support for the GLBTQIA community.  For more information, please e-mail us.

Washington University Policy on Discrimination

Washington University policies and programs are nondiscriminatory. The University administers all programs without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, veteran status or disability. Present Department of Defense policy governing ROTC and AFROTC programs discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation; such discrimination is inconsistent with Washington University policy.

Inquiries about compliance should be addressed to:

Executive Vice Chancellor and General Counsel
Washington University
Campus Box 1184
One Brookings Dr.
St. Louis, MO  63130-4899
314-935-5990

SafeZones hopes that one day Washington University's non-discrimination policy will be expanded to include gender identity and expression. Although in practice the University generally promotes inclusion of these individuals, this would explicitly protect transgender, transsexual, genderqueer, or gender-variant members of our community.
