Information about the Club
|
We are a Co-Ed club composed of two types of teams. One is competitive and travels to play against other universities, and one is a social team that encourages playing tennis for enjoyment of the game. We practice in Forest Park at Dwight Davis Tennis Center and here on campus for both Fall and Spring seasons. Practices are typically 3 times a week for about 1.5 hours, but our schedule depends greatly upon the weather. The competitive team plays against an expanding group of colleges including: Northwestern, U. Michigan, U. Illinois, Indiana Univ., SLU, and Missouri-Rolla. There is a national tournament in the spring that we prepare for, and as first-time entrants two years ago we managed a 19th place finish against a pool of Div. 1 schools. The competitive team generally has 2-4 matches per semester including one away match. Men compete against men, and women against women to make the competitive team. Matches are also separated by gender but the match scores are totaled for an overall score. The social team (group of players) is an essential part of the club team because part of our goal is to provide awareness and opportunities for Wash U students to play tennis. Those who are just interested in playing for fun can come to practices at their leisure, but those interested in the competitive team need to come to at least 2 practices each week and are expected to hit on their own as well. To be informed of all things club tennis, we have a listserv
on Yahoo. The listserv functions as a message board where messages are
sent out to all members by e-mail. It's located at: If you have any further questions please contact our president
