Men and Women's Competitive Ladder:

Ladder Guidelines:

1. Players can challenge up to three spots above them.
2. You switch places with the person if you win.
3. Matches are at least WTT format first to 5 games no-ad sets (9-point tiebreaker at 4-4). If both players have more time you can play a whole set, regular scoring.
4. During one week, you can only challenge once and be challenged once. If you are challenged by more than one person, the first person to have challenged you is the match that must be played.
5. Challenge matches are setup up during or outside of practice.  For setting up a match outside of practice, the challenger calls the challengee using the team phone list located at the Yahoo Listserv and sets up the match. A match can be played outside of practice or during practice on a court reserved for challenge matches. There will be at least one court reserved each practice. If there are more requested challenge matches than courts, the players play rock-paper-scissors to decide who goes first.
6. If the challenged player cannot play the challenge match at all during the week, this player forfeits the would-be match. If the challenged player does not respond to calls or messages and does not show up to practice, he/she also forfeits the challenge match. If both players can't seem to work out a time, the match is cancelled. A player should not challenge another player unless he/she does not have several options for playing time during the week. Players should use practical judgment.
7. A challenge must be played as originally scheduled, regardless of changes in the player's ladder positions. This includes the case where Player 1 is challenged, schedules the match for later in the week, and in the meantime beats someone and moves up out of the 3-spot range of the original challenger.
8. Challengers provide the balls for the match, unless it is played during practice, in which case the club balls may be used.
9. A player who arrives 20 minutes or more after the agreed-upon match start time forfeits the match.
10. If a player has not recorded a challenge match (either as a challenger or challengee) during a two-week time period, he or she is automatically placed on the 'inactive' list.
11. If a player wants to join the ladder in the middle of the season, he or she can challenge whoever he or she wants on the ladder.  If the newcomer wins, they take the spot of the challenged player, and the challenged player moves down one spot.  If the newcomer loses, they go directly to the bottom of the ladder, so they should choose wisely when deciding where to challenge.

Everyone needs to enter their contact info in the team phone/email list to be considered an active player on the ladder.  Don't worry about privacy, access to the group is restricted to those people approved by the group moderators (Club Tennis Officers).

*The top six players on the Guys and Girls ladders are guaranteed to be able to wear the team Dri-fit uniforms if they go to the matches.

Results are reported online at the wuclubtennis Yahoo! Group site. Go under "Databases" and enter your score under the table entitled "Challenge Matches Score Report."
